About Us

‘The Brown Bean’ was established back in 2008 as a boutique coffee roasting business. Frustrated with stale coffee beans from the supermarket and with very little choice of quality coffee roasters in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, we decided to roast our own coffee. And, within a short period of time, began roasting for other people.

Here at The Brown Bean, we are serious about all facets of the coffee industry. They include:

Freshly Roasted

Quality coffee beans begin to lose their sweet aroma and wonderful flavours within weeks of being roasted. In order to experience coffee at its best, we believe it is best consumed within three weeks from it being roasted. After all, you wouldn’t normally eat bread that was more than one week old. Accordingly, each packet of our coffee contains the date of which the coffee was roasted.

Packaging

To further maintain freshness, our coffee comes packaged in special one-way valve packaging that release gasses from the roasted coffee beans without letting them come into contact with moisture & oxygen.

Ground Coffee

Don’t have a grinder? We are happy to grind your coffee beans for you. However to maintain the coffees freshness, the purchase of a good quality burr coffee grinder is recommended to ensure you can grind your freshly roasted coffee beans on demand.

Sustainable

Our coffee has been sourced from sustainable coffee plantations across the globe. In supporting coffee growers whom produce better quality crops, offering them a premium price has meant coffee growers get a better value for a more reasonable days work. This lends itself to a more sustainable future for the coffee industry.
